Book Cover
Title handmade from real dirt. Symbolic photo collaged images from old magazines.
Goal
Create a cover that entices mature audiences to re-read the classic. Reimagine the cover to employ symbolism rather than the typical imagery: mouse, farm, silhouettes.
Research
I researched the history of book cover versions, dating back to 1937. As well as looked at possible style options, identifying the use of photographic elements ability to modernize books.
Execution
The title and author's name are made from real dirt. The photographic elements were found in old magazines. The final cover is a collage of these real elements and a graphic texture. I used unexpected imagery to capture the tension of the story.
Ideation
Below are snapshots of my creative process.
